Fresh Approach to Veteran Community Service
Do you have an idea about a fresh approach to Veteran community service? We welcome the opportunity to hear from you and to find a way to engage you with the GallantFew mission.
GallantFew continues to grow. It is always challenging to keep up with demand. In fact, we don’t want to do it without you. GallantFew is an organization that can and will find a way to engage all interested in supporting GallantFew services. We want to engage you as well as continue to develop relationships with other Veteran service organizations and providers to get the best help to the Veteran in as quickly a manner as possible.
The GallantFew objective is to connect every transitioning Veteran with a Veteran mentor – one who has successfully transitioned, is local, and from the same branch of the service with a very similar military background. We want this to happen as close to transition from active duty as possible for the greatest preventive effect, but we also spend a lot of time helping Veterans through issues that have arisen over years of less-than successful transition.
Because GallantFew is an organization recognized for its “by the Veteran for the Veteran” approach to services, it can be confusing to interested parties on how to best engage and support the GallantFew mission. We like to take time and highlight examples of how others approach veteran community service. The following is one example.
Dotan Baer
Dotan is a Veteran who once sought service support through GallantFew. He speaks frankly about his experience with GallantFew executive director, Karl Monger:
“To speak of the work done, on behalf of Veterans, by GallantFew executive director, Karl Monger, is to personally attest to Karl’s impact. Karl Monger provided my business with the steps needed to convert from just consulting productions, to allow us to compete and bid for state and federal contracting,” says Baer. “This led to an assessment of our strengths and how we could best service the community with our current assets and skill set in place. Through that process we found our market niche. Monger’s efforts enabled us to avoid a wrong path while saving our organization nearly $70-130K just in the first year. Instead of wasted funds we began serving Veteran owned companies that would hire Veterans and were willing to directly support the Veteran community.”
Today Baer and his colleagues assist Veteran owned companies that wish to take their existing business and scale up to become a market competitor. They do this by helping Veteran owned companies achieve positive cash flow and cover cost of goods sold. This in turn allows Veteran owned companies to hire more Veterans to work for them.
